McElle was going to another dance,

this time it was her Senior Homecoming.
(totally weird she is already a senior)

She looked absolutely gorgeous, as usual.

Surprisingly, we actually had some time to spare after we finished getting her ready.
Sooooo... we decided it would be a great idea for this to be awaiting on the stairs while her date came to pick her up..

He didn't seem too amused.
Maybe because Barb apologized on our behalf as soon as he took a step into our house.
At least we made a good first impression.

For Papa J's birthday, we went and watched some football.

We are technically Ute fans,
but college football is fun to watch regardless.

and really, who can pass up a good hot dog and some kettle corn?
Even if you have to drive through construction the whole way home, and have it take twice as long.

Regardless, this year was just as fun as any other.
On top of taking me shopping at one of my favorite stores,
Jon also got us tickets to the Adele concert.

Jon and I have always loved going to concerts,
but I will have to say Adele was one of the best!
She is amazing live, and it was fun being in the downtown atmosphere.

Thanks again for all of the birthday wishes, and gifts!
I have the best family and friends out there!
(Even if my siblings continue to remind me how old I am becoming)

Ok, I've been slacking quite a bit in the blogging world, so where do I begin??

Back in August (see I told you it has been some time), we decided we wanted to go on a last minute road trip to California before summer ended, and everyone had to go back to school. It was literally last minute. We had gone to dinner before the baseball game (previously posted), and randomly started talking that we needed to go to Disneyland! Really, is there a better idea? Obviously not, since two weeks later we were on our way!

The DLand 2011 crew consisted of Jon, Davis, Aleesha, McElle, Caden, and myself. It really was such a good time! I know what most of you are thinking, why would six grown ups (well I guess McElle and Caden can't be considered grown ups) want to go to Disneyland? Umm hello.. it's the happiest place on earth, so more like why not?

We drove in style in Caden's family Escalade,
and packed ourselves into one room at the Marriott.
Yeaaaaahhhh..
Six in one room.
But Aleesha's dad hooked us up, and got us a free room,
so we managed.

We also sported awesome custom neon fanny packs,
that included our trip nicknames.
You don't need to judge us, we already received plenty of weird looks from everyone else.

Davis was even called out on his nickname "Drama King" by a 10 year old kid on the rapids ride.
He really had no comeback.
I think it was a first.
However, no one was laughing after the ride, since all of us were drenched from head to toe.

Tower of Terror was for sure the trip favorite,
as we did go on it at least 17 times over the two days we were there.
However, Jon would disagree.
He absolutely hates this ride.
We convinced him to go on it at least once, and he refused to go any more than that.

Just some of the awesome memories we were able to catch on camera..

While we were there we celebrated Jon's 27th Birthday,
and enjoyed some good food at the Cheesecake Factory.

On our way home, we had stopped in Vegas to ride the Desperado/Buffalo Bill's roller coaster.
Oh man.
It was seriously intense, and the fastest roller coaster I have ever been on.
I don't know if it was fun, or totally ruined my life.
I'm leaning towards the latter.

Jon also surprised me, and we stopped at Caesar's Palace so I could go shopping at H&M as an early birthday present.
Love that place.
Too bad the new one that just came to town doesn't even compare.

Even though the drive home seemed like it was never ending,
it was still plenty entertaining.
We had to drive through a big thunderstorm,
and ended up having to call 911 to report a field that we saw burst into flames from the lightning.

Overall, the trip was very successful!
I would think I would be sick of Disneyland, since we have been 3 times in the past three years, but it really doesn't get old.

I wasn't kidding when I said I LOVE JULY!!

There is always something fun to do with family and friends,

and the weekend of the 24th was no exception.

Once again, I didn't take as many pics as I wish I had,

but the weekend was packed full of..

FIREWORKS with the fam in the church parking lot.

Is that legal?

It was the only open space nearby.

CHERRY HILL with Cackee and Fish.
I don't know which was more memorable, Cackee yelling "Somebody HELP ME!" all the way down to the bottom of the water slide, the lifeguard shoving me while in my tube to the next waiting pool with the craziest man face ever, or DJ thinking they really only got paid $3 a day?

Also where the greatest idea of DLAND 2011 took place.

And of course, we went to the BEE'S GAME to end the weekend off right.

The Fourth of July has to be one of our favorite Holidays.

LOVE the heat.
the BBQ's.
laying by the pool.
local parades.
and of course the fireworks.

The night before the big day, we got together with the VB's and Christensen's for some delicious ribs, the classic Eaglewood fireworks, and a sneak peak of Ladd and Brody premiering in the next Twilight movie. Never a dull moment with this bunch.

We may have started a new tradition. Thanks again for such a fun night!

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics on the fourth either.
I really need to do better with that new camera of mine.
Our day was pretty low key, but was fun as usual.
We didn't make it to our local parade as we had planned,
instead we tried to get our tan on at the pool... but of course, we got rained out.
We basically just chilled with our families,
and ended the day with some more fireworks at the Allsops.
We didn't start the library on fire. Success.

Well.. I survived my first experience to Milford, UT.

Jon has family that is from Milford,

so the Johnson side tries to make a trip there every year.

I haven't been able to go in the past due to work, but I was able to get it off this year.

Boy, was I in for a treat.

I'm taking a guess here..
but I bet the majority of people have never had the opportunity to experience good ol' Milford,

let alone have heard of the place,

so let me fill you in on just what you are missing out on..

When you check in at one of the only two hotels that are in the whole town,
old creepy music is blasting out of the speakers at the Diner.
(Yes, you check in at the restaurant, for the hotel you are staying in)
It made me feel like I was in my own horror movie.

Speaking of the Diner,
even though it was all fried food all weekend, it was delish!!
You sure can't beat a grilled cheese, and your classic diner fries..
We may or may not have shared a chocolate malt at 1:00 in the morning :)

Penny's Diner for sure needs to be awarded Best Chocolate Malt Ever!!

We basically played around in the desert for the entire weekend.

Cackee and Fiff entertained themselves on this mountain for about an hour straight.

I'm pretty sure they ate their fair share of dirt.

Discovered every creepy crawly thing there is out there..

It's nice to see that a 3 yr. old is more brave than I am.

I was obviously born an Emery.

Oh, and don't let me forget my favorite memory of going rabbit stomping.

(To give you some background on "rabbit stomping".. I first thought they literally killed rabbits. I mean, it's not like the name of such an activity would make you think that or anything.. but really the boys only run around with their flashlights trying to catch the rabbits, take a picture of the little fella, and then send them on their way)

Well.. it didn't really go that way this time around.

We drove around for two hours, and didn't catch a single one.

The only thing we caught were the flying grasshoppers that slapped us in the forehead that a certain someone kept throwing into the backseat on multiple occasions.

Did I mention that I hate bugs??

Especially those stupid grasshoppers!!

All in all, it was a super fun trip!

I for sure have never experienced anything like that before,

but looking forward to carrying on the tradition with the in-laws for years to come.

We first just need to teach Cackee that even though we are in the middle of nowhere,

that doesn't mean you can just pop a squat behind the shed next to our hotel room.

Moving is a lot more overwhelming than I could have imagined.

If Jon and I survive the next two weeks I will be quite impressed.

We have to move three people, including ourselves over the next couple of days. Never thought I hated packing as much as I do. Let alone the deep cleaning that still has to be done. Oh.. and yes, we are still trying to get everything done at the parentals with the remodel. Never Ending. Why did we ever offer to help? (Oh wait, I remember.. we didn't want to risk letting a certain someone paint all of the cabinets forest green.)

Can't forget that we need to get everything else ready for the Golden Child to return. Did I mention I'm still trying to get through my 200 emails that were waiting for me from the Memorial Day Break??

It's all right.. I'm willing to admit this is a total "sympathy needed" post.

We went to our annual eye appointment on Saturday, and it went a little like this..

Dr {as he is examining my right, more unfortunate eye}: Hmm.. {pause} Hmm..
Me: {still just waiting for him to actually say something}
Dr: Has anyone ever told you why your eye is so misshaped?
Me: Well.. no..??
Dr: Hmm.. do you know if they used forceps on you when you were delivered?
Me: haha.. {oh, you're serious}.... um.. not that I know of??
Dr: Well, that would make sense, when an eye is this misshaped, it typically occurs in delivery, and more commonly when forceps are used.
Me: {lovely}
Dr: Oh, but it's nothing to worry about. It isn't a physical defect or anything, you can only see the Birth Defect under a scope.
Me: {Now it's a birth defect? Yeah, that sounds like no big deal at all}

{the eye examination continues for the next 5 min.}

Dr: All right, well I'm going to need to go ahead and special order your contacts {for my one eye only of course, since that is totally normal} since we don't have anything like this in stock. I'm not 100% sure they will fit properly, so you may need to come in for another examination if they irritate your eye.
Me {with no enthusiasm in my voice}: greeeaatttt, thanks.

Of course my mom can't remember if forceps were used or not, but did recall that she did get her wisdom teeth out while I was in the womb. Neat.

I got this fine beauty for Christmas from my Mother in law, and let's be honest.. it intimidates me quite a bit. Over the past year or so I have been interested in starting this new hobby, and have seen so many cute things that look so easy to make.. but wasn't I foolish. I have made two pillows, and the first one was more of an embarrassment. It's sad when your husband is showing you how to thread the bobbin, when your Mother in law just gave you an entire tutorial. Looks like my 7th grade TLC class wasn't as useful as I thought. Anyways, I'm determined to master this little machine, so if anyone has any ideas on easy projects, send them my way. Who would have thought that I would really be asking for Sewing advice? I'm getting old aren't I.

To be quite honest, I personally think Valentines Day is a little overrated. I never really understood what all the hype was about. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally grateful that I have my husband to share it with, but really.. those little candy hearts are nasty. And truthfully, I would so much rather get a bouquet of flowers or a dozen roses when they are completely unexpected. Am I the Valentines Scrooge? Maybe so.. We spent this year the best way we know how.. Some dang good food, and substituted the expensive petals for some absolutely delicious chocolate dipped strawberries. He knows how I roll..

Oh, and if you have never eaten at "The Wild Grape", we highly suggest trying it out! Even though I didn't know about 95% of what was on the menu, the C.A.B tenderloin totally pulled through. Worth every penny.

January 17, 2011 has changed my life forever.

It only took one phone call to change my entire perspective on everything.
Elder Walker's life was taken in only a matter of seconds,
and was reunited with our Heavenly Father.
Feeling so blessed that Elder Emery made it out safe,
as well as the six other missionaries that were unharmed.
I can't express my gratitude for those angels that were present that day,
and so grateful for the knowledge I have to get through this tough time.

You were a great missionary,
and you will NEVER be forgotten.

Can I just express my love for Netflix? I seriously love it. Especially now that we can just watch movies through our Wii. I think it's a curse at the same time though, since we watch the most random movies ever. No really, the most random. I call them classics, but you may think otherwise. Here are a few that we have watched this past month...

I can't believe this movie really was a thriller.
I honestly remember being completely freaked out by it.

"Rocky loves Emily... Rocky loves Emily"

This movie totally reminds me of growing up with my cousins.
I was always totally bugged that there wasn't an awesome girl ninja.

Surfing on top of a van to the Beach Boys?
Yep.

Now and Then has to be one of my favorites. Mainly because it totally reminds me of the 6th grade, and how I hoped that me and my group of friends would stay just as close. Even though we didn't have a cool tree house, we totally did a seance (sp?) at Nikki's birthday party. Good thing we really didn't know what we were doing at the age of 12.

What makes all of this even better is that Jon watched all of these with me, and gave me the weirdest look when I would laugh out loud at probably the dumbest parts. I know he secretly enjoyed them. Oh, and how do I know? He wanted to watch Tremors II the next day.

Lately I have been feeling a little depressed because I haven't been able to design as much lately as I would like.

Instead I have been frying my brain at work in my new position,
which doesn't use one creative bone in me.

I don't know if this is just me needing to start a new little project for our little humble abode..
or what??

I have been thinking of purchasing a sewing machine here in the near future,
even though I don't have the slightest idea of where to even begin,
let alone how to thread a needle.

I have also been imagining fun little art pieces that I could create to hang on my walls.

But more than anything..
I just want to design.

Too bad I am stuck in this apartment for two more years..
and unfortunately clients aren't lining up at my door begging for my design expertise.

I guess I will just enjoy others imaginative minds for now.

The truth is...

Jon decided to plan a surprise for my big 24.

I typically love surprises,
but I also like to have everything planned out.
{I really think I'm a little OCD when it comes to planning, its that bad}

So.....
if you can imagine, it was driving me nuts that Jon wouldn't give me any idea of what we would be doing to celebrate my birthday.He told me to be ready by 12:15pm, and then the adventure was going to begin.
We got in the car and drove..
and drove..

Jon wasn't going to spill the beans about anything.

He then started saying things that would throw me off a little.

"You are going to die laughing"
"You're going to be a little scared"
"Hahaha.. I can't wait to see you expression"
"I can't wait to see how nervous you are going to be"

At this point I was freaking out! I was telling Jon that I wasn't going to do anything that I didn't want to do, which made Jon just laugh harder. I was no longer enjoying the suspense, and only became more and more anxious.

We then arrived to PC,
parked the car,
and started walking.

I couldn't help myself, I just kept looking around waiting for someone to jump out and attack me. It's probably a good thing I'm not normally overly paranoid, or I really would need to be put into a straight jacket.

We then walked into a little mexican restaurant called "Baja Cantina", and waiting for my arrival was my cute little family.

S U R P R I S E!!

Jon had set up an entire day for us to spend in PC with my family. Not that my family lives far away or anything, but its always fun when we get together, and Jon knows how much I love spending time with them.

The Birthday Celebration started off with us stuffing our faces with some good grub.
After, we went and did the Alpine Slide & Coaster.
We then finished the day with some good old shopping.
Oh how I love the PC Outlets.

{I was so sunburned that my eyes were even puffy. Good look, I know}

{I didn't realize I could go any faster, so I was kind of holding up the line.}

Jon had planned the BEST birthday.. and he knew exactly how I would have wanted to spend it!

I made these for a "Hawaiian" themed Baby Shower.

{Recipe Requested}

Prep: 10 min
Total: 1 hour

1 pkg. white cake mix
1 c. fat free milk
1 pkg. (4 serving size) Jell-O Banana Cream Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
1 tub (8 oz.) Cool Whip Lite Whipped Topping, thawed
24 small strawberries
1/2 c. blueberries

Prepare cake batter as directed on package. Spoon evenly into 24 paper-lined medium muffin cups. Bake as directed on package. Cool 10 min.; remove from pans to wire racks, cool completely.

Pour milk into large bowl. Add dry pudding mix. Beat with wire whisk 2 min. or until well blended. Gently stir in whipped topping.

Spread tops of cupcakes with pudding mixture. Arrange strawberry slices on top. Fill centers with blueberries. Store in refrigerator.

{Makes 2 dozen}

They were supposed to be "tropical flowers",
but they look they would fit in at a Fourth of July event instead.

Whatev.
They were still a party favorite.

My mom and I had a great idea to surprise my younger sister with a brand new bedroom for her 16th Birthday..

McElle left Monday morning to dance camp,
and was going to be back Wednesday night.

luckily we had Jon to help,
but we still had quite the project ahead of us..

Unfortunately I didn't take before pictures of what her room looked like before the make-over..

but just to give you an idea..

there was an awful 80's looking wood shelf hanging,
which matched the ceiling fan perfectly.
Beige Walls that were a little too oily for my liking.
No theme, or anything that coordinated with anything else,
and pictures tacked over all four walls.

We transformed the room completely
(other than the carpet, which will be happening next summer)

NEW Paint,
Trim,
Door/Closet,
Outlets,
Ceiling Light,
Blinds,
and Furnishings.

I would say we did a pretty ok job..

We still need to add some window treatments,
and a couple finishing touches.

Let's just say she LOVED it!

So I agreed to go to Cozumel on a Scuba Diving trip with the in laws..

Let me just tell you that this is a huge step for me.
Keep in mind that I am absolutely terrified of the ocean,
but mainly of the creatures that live down there.

I was finally starting to do ok with the idea that I will be swimming with

Eels,

Sting Rays,

Turtles,

Octopus,

Groupers,

Baracudas,

and even Nurse Sharks.

I was even considering the Twilight dives..

They then decided to inform me that the main reason we are going at the end of June is because we will get to have a

once in a lifetime experience,

and snorkel with Whale Sharks.

So I got the great idea to google "Whale Sharks" and this is what came up..

So much for taking small steps..

I never thought I would actually look forward to making dinner each night,

Let's just say our Christmas gift was a hit at the Emery home.

Speaking of our cute little missionary,
Elder Emery just got transferred out of Jamaica to the Bahamas,
and now has to learn Creole.
Crazy.

Disney"Wonder"Land

Grandma & Grandpa Meow surprised us all with a 5 day trip to Disneyland right before Christmas.

We had never been during the Holidays,
but it is for sure the time to go.

The vacation consisted of..
Fish yelling "Paaa..Paaa" at every plane he saw at the airport.
Trying to fit our luggage in our compact cars,
which was quite interesting.
Discovering Christopher, "the elf" in our hotel.
Gorging ourselves at Cheesecake Factory and In N' Out,
2 1/2 days in Dland,
which was totally decked out in holiday decorations.

Fish faking that he was grumpy or falling asleep..
and then after 15 seconds, he would give you a big cheese.

John-A getting soaked on Splash Mountain,
and Cackee wondering why in the crap she decided to go on this ride..

Some quality time with our favorite little buddies..

Cackee even got in on some pin trading..
as did Ed..

and I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
I get a little anxious when millions of birds are flying around my head.

Ed then tried and convinced me to go Scuba Diving after we saw this fine creature..

It's going to take a lot of bribing to get me to go.

All in all in was such a fun vacation.

I think this is my first official post, I think Whit will be proud of me. Here is my Masters of Architecture Application Portfolio. The Final List of Schools is University of Southern California, UC Berkeley, University of Utah, Harvard, and MIT. It has seriously taken forever. Whit has been a good sport about it, and has been tons of support! Thanks babe, your the best..Thanks for putting up with me through all of this semester! Keep in mind this isn't the final draft, so don't mind the grammar errors people.
